Hello friends,
My name is John Prather, and I grew up with seven siblings in the home of BBQ and the Blues: Memphis, Tennessee. From a young age, I knew there were several things I was going to do in my life. I knew I would write a book; I knew I would adopt children; and I knew I would move to Los Angeles.
In my late twenties, I began checking items off my list by moving to California and trying my hand at the entertainment industry. I started booking regular appearances in fitness magazines, like Men’s Health and Muscle and Fitness, and was in the World’s Sexiest Man issue of People magazine. I did a feature as the superhero body in GQ magazine and booked a series of commercials playing a superhero alongside comedy greats Kevin Dillon and Patrick Warburton.
My next goal was to write a book. I determined that I wouldn’t be someone who always said they would write a book anymore – I was finally going to do it. So I did. It took many dedicated hours staring at a blank screen but, eventually, I had a complete manuscript. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very good. Fortunately, I had proved to myself that I could complete one. A year later, my next manuscript was published with the title: The Nephilim Virus.
During my first few years in Los Angeles, I met and married the love of my life, Mindi. My novel was dedicated to her because she was indispensable in helping me achieve the goals I had set. She was even more valuable for the next goal because two months after we got married, she found a foster care orientation class for us to attend. Building our family through adoption and having biological children was something we connected on early in our relationship. We had no idea the journey that would take us on, but, several years later, we were the proud parents of four children under the age of two and a half, some of whom are adopted.
Today, you can still occasionally find me in magazines or on television; you can read a few of my words in articles in national publications or by reading my novel; and you can see me working out and juggling family life as the foster, adoptive, and bio dad of four young kids online. I’m John; it’s nice to meet you.
