You want to be a rebel? You want to be unique? You want to stand out from the crowd?

Here’s a tip: Fighting about politics doesn’t make you special. Thinking what society tells you to think won’t make you stand out. Believing what the world tells you to believe does not make you a revolutionary. Doing what’s currently popular won’t make you interesting. Copying the world’s behavior won’t make you unique.

You want to be different? You want to be unique? You want to start a revolution?

Try this:

  1. Try being truly loving to others. In a world filled with pseudo-love try truly loving those you think are wrong.
  2. Try being joyful while living in a depressed world. Try having joy in spite of your circumstances rather than because of them.
  3. Try being a peacemaker in our current age of outrage.
  4. Try being a patient person in an instant gratification (or insta-gramification) culture.
  5. Try being kind in a society that is merely tolerant.
  6. Try being good in a culture that glorifies being the opposite.
  7. Try being faithful in a world that is continually moving on to the next best thing.
  8. Try being gentle in a society that rewards power.
  9. Try having discipline and self-control in an entitled society.

Try doing those things and see how different you will be from everyone around you.

That’s real rebellion. That will make you a true revolutionary. Trust me, the guy who originally came up with that list was so revolutionary they killed him for it.
